I recently moved to Minnesota from Virginia and am eager to work with couples and individuals, either in person or telehealth. One of the many things I love so far about Minnesota is the chance to work in a community at the MNCTC that focuses largely on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I have been using this model for several years in my practice and it has transformed how I work with and understand couples and individuals.
EFT has changed how I think about emotion and its role in our lives and relationships. In individual or couples sessions, I will engage with you to understand the multi-dimensional aspects of emotion and how this drives the ways in which you feel stuck in frustrating patterns. Relationships can be complicated. Communication can be so unclear at times. EFT gives us an evidence based framework and map to navigate the confusion and grow towards more loving connection, with ourselves and with our partners.
I am a LICSW and have almost 25 years post-masters (MSW) experience in mental health. Over the years, I have worked in community mental health with those experiencing addiction and severe mental illness, in an inpatient setting with adults with complex ptsd, and in private practice with a very wide range of clinical issues. I have worked in urban and rural settings, with adults from a wide range of backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcoming. I love to learn and have engaged in intensive training beyond what is required for licensure/continuing education, such as a two year intensive training program in psychodynamic therapy, and more recently in advanced EFT Training (Externship and Core Skills).
In addition to formal training as a therapist, I have 18 years of experience as a parent, 25 years of experience in marriage, and over 50 years of experience as a human. I keep learning that I have no answers. I keep learning how challenging it can be to set aside our assumptions and to be fully present with and curious about our loved ones. And I have ultimate hope and faith in our ability as humans to grow, to learn, to change patterns, to repair, and to try again and again and again.
