Hello, I’m Dr. Ronald Asiimwe (Dr. A/Ron), a trained marriage and family therapist. At the heart of my work is a commitment to making you feel seen, heard, and supported so that you can carry that sense of connection and wellness into your life and relationships outside of therapy. In my practice, I specialize in helping individuals, couples, teens, and parents who are dealing with painful relationships, trauma, depression, or anxiety. Our work together will be collaborative, relational, and strength based because I believe real change and mental wellbeing happens through safe and supportive relationships. I can help you move to a place of deeper emotional connection and trust, strengthen bonds, and heal old hurts. I will support you as you work through painful experiences, managing stress, and reconnecting with your authentic self.
My clinical work is based on research based approaches to therapy that have been proven to be successful. They include Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), Attachment-Based
Family Therapy (ABFT), trauma-informed, relational/systemic, and
integrative methods. I draw from intergenerational and narrative therapy approaches also.
I grew up in Uganda and moved to the U.S. in 2016 to pursue my passion for supporting the mental and relational wellbeing of individuals, couples, and families, and have since lived in Michigan, Oklahoma, and now Minnesota. In Minnesota, I work as both a therapist with the MN Couple Therapy Center and an Assistant Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy in the department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. Prior to moving to Minnesota, I received my bachelor’s degree in Community Psychology at Makerere University in Uganda (2013), then went on to get my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Oklahoma Baptist University (2018), and a then a PhD in Couple and Family Therapy from Michigan State University (2023).
Outside of my work, I enjoy meeting people from all cultures, playing tennis, running half marathons, cooking, music and stand-up comedy, as well as traveling to see new places. Since I live in MN, I am slowly working on my skiing skills, but don’t dare me, I’m still a baby skier, haha!
Come let’s do this together! Looking forward to seeing you soon!
